November 2012 Chapter News

Hurricane Sandy Relief and Recovery

On November 11, 2012 the Brothers of Queens Alumni and New Rochelle White Plains Alumni assisted Council Member James Sander's office in Far Rockaway, Queens with the distribution of clothing for those in need after Super Storm Sandy hit New York last week. Individuals in Far Rockaway are among those who were most affected by Sandy.  We set up a distribution center in the parking lot of a thrift mall along with FEMA, the Red Cross, and other organizations where we gave out approximately 50 extra large bags worth of clothing, as well as water, diapers, and hot meals. Thank you to Brothers: Jason Gerald, Troy Miller, Caron Washington, Ernest Pope, Gavin Bennett,Seth Dressekie (donation) and Jason Caraballo (Polemarch New Rochelle White Plains).

Thanksgiving Feed the Needy

During the Thanksgiving season the Queens Alumni Chapter answered the call for service and gave of their time selflessly to assist Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York and Brownsville Community Baptist Church. Our efforts began on Wednesday, November 21st at Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York where Queens Alumni and Mu Omicron brothers helped with the unloading, storage, and preparing of the food that was to be prepared on Thanksgiving Day.

Then on November 22nd, Thanksgiving Day, we were certainly well presented as Queens Alumni Brothers along with Collegiate Brothers from Mu Kappa, Mu Omicron, Mu Pi, Xi Omicron, and Pi Rho were in attendance. The time was well spent as Brothers divided the group into 2 with half of the group at Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York and the other half at Brownsville Community Baptist Church. Brothers helped with the preparing, serving, packaging, and delivering of hot meals to the needy and elderly in the area resulting in a combined effort at both churches of more than 600 hot meals being prepared, served, and delivered.
