December 2012 Chapter News

 Christmas Initiatives

The QA Christmas Initiatives were kicked off on December 15th with shopping at Green Acres Mall. Brothers spent 3 ½ hours shopping, waiting in lines, and fellowshipping in preparation for the upcoming toy/gift deliveries.  Delivery of toys/gifts began on December 19th with Lifeline Development Center. Lifeline Center is a licensed day treatment center and special school located in Queens Village, New York serving emotionally handicapped and developmentally delayed children from the greater metropolitan area and Nassau County. Toys were given to children ages 3-5 years old in Pre-K. Delivery of the gifts continued on December 22nd with our adopted family in Far Rockaway, Queens - an area that was severely affected by Super Storm Sandy. The family consisted of a mother and 4 boys ages: 2, 7, 11, and 13. Not only did we deliver toys, clothing, bikes, and a razor scooter, we also delivered compassion, a spirit of giving and selflessness. Our deliveries concluded with a Christmas party at the Roy Wilkin Community Center gymnasium hosted by the King of Kings Foundation. The King of Kings Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization that has been working with at risk youth in Jamaica, New York since 2005.  The focus of their community work targets teenagers in the community. Queens Alumni sponsored the event by donating toys to insure that those children who are most in need of our help in the community are able to enjoy the Christmas Holiday.
