2012 Health Fair

On Saturday June 23, 2012 we had our Annual Health Fair at Parish of Grace Church in Jamaica , Queens. The Health Fair incorporated an array of different health Care organizations talking and handing out a lot of information on African American Health care concerns. We had 2 physicians in attendance who talked and handed out information about bone diseases and obesity. The American Heart Association had a representative in attendance who talked about healthy eating and we also had the Queens County Black Nurses Association there to check the blood pressure of people in attendance. I also can not forget the YMCA from across the street that also sent over a representative and had a table set up the entire day of the event. The health fair lasted from 10 am to 2 pm and saw people coming in and out all day to receive this valuable information that can effect their health. We also took the health fair into the streets of Jamaica. For the people who did not make it inside the church we put information and water into bags and handed them out on Jamaica ave . I would like to thank the brothers that came out to support....Jermaine, Derrick, Leon, Jackson, and Greg.

Read Across America

On June 9th, 2012, the Brothers of Queens Alumni hosted our 4th Annual Read Across America in Queens Day Initiative at Central Library in Jamaica, Queens. This year, members of Queens Alumni and several community volunteers came together and were able to read the great stories of Dr. Seuss to the largest group of kids to date. There were over 50 kids and 20 adults in attendance and everyone enjoyed the great spirit of reading. Thank you to Brothers Jermaine Wright, Marcus Poon, Guichard Cadet, Walter Marable, Gregory Spence, and the community volunteers for coming out and supporting this great initiative and helping emphasize the fun in reading. Thank you to Central Library for allowing us to host this event for the 4th straight year. We are looking forward to next year's 5th Annual running of this program!!!

Forestdale Day of Service

On June 2nd the brothers of QA participated in Day of Service at Forestdale Foster Care Center in Forest Hills , NY. A special thanks to the brothers in attendance (Jermaine Wright, Jason Gerald, Thierry Cazeau and Trevor John, Leon Heyliger). In coordination with the Queens Alumni chapters of Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta and Alpha Phi Alpha we were able to provide mentoring, fun and games for the kids, music and food for all in attendance. Forestdale is the only Foster Care Center in the borough of Queens and has been in existence for over 100 years. This event helps with the Polemarchs initiative for QA for Queens and also helped us to work together and strengthen our relationship with our fellow Alumni chapters in Queens.
